From Friday, September 14 - Sunday, September 23, The South Shore YMCA will join 75 other YMCAs across the country taking part in Welcoming Week 2018!
Welcoming Week is a national celebration in which community-based organizations like the Y host events that bring together all neighbors - both immigrants and U.S.-born residents - from all backgrounds to celebrate what unites us as a community.

Popular with families across the region, our 42nd Annual Corn Festival will bring together over 3,000 of our neighbors across the South Shore to celebrate the fall harvest and the natural and cultural heritage of New England. The event, which will take place at the SSYMCA's South Shore Natural Science Center, will include activities and events including storytelling, historical interpreters, farm animals, live animal presentations, Wompanoag traditions, craft demonstrations, games and more. Participants can also enjoy live, ongoing music, ranging from the oldies, bluegrass, folk and country. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $7 for members and $10 for non-members. The South Shore YMCA's Germantown Neighborhood Center will host a Welcoming Week preview event on Tuesday, September 11. At the event, which is free and open to the public, residents are invited to enjoy a cookout, meet fellow neighbors, and have the opportunity sign up for Germantown Neighborhood Center programs! The Early Learning Center in Hanover will host a Coffee and Conversation with the Directors on Thursday, September 13th from 7:30am-8:30am. Stop by and say hello, grab a bite to eat, and talk to others in the ELC community about parenting and the different ways that you introduce your culture and heritage to your children! The SSYMCA's Camp Burgess and Hayward in Sandwich, MA will invite the local community to help harvest and close down their farm/production field for the end of the 2018 growing season. Throughout the week, The SSYMCA's Gymnastics Center gymnasts and families are invited to prepare and share food or snacks that celebrate their heritage. Gymnasts will also learn about their fellow classmates' history and culture by placing a pin on a map to celebrate the region where they were born.
