South Shore Natural Science Center
The South Shore YMCA and the South Shore Natural Science Center (SSNSC) were pleased to announce our merger effective September 1, 2011. In in operation for fifty years, SSNSC has a mission of providing environmental education and fostering an appreciation of the natural world. The branch includes a day camp, pre-school, an eco-zone exhibit and acres of unspoiled walking trails. Check out the SSNSC website for more news!

Nature Adventures Summer Day Camp
The Nature Center Preschool
We're also excited to be in collaboration with the Nature Center Preschool, which combines the idea of a traditional preschool program with all the extra opportunities and excitement offered by the facilities and staff of the South Shore Natural Science Center. Naturalists from the Science Center visit the preschool regularly to provide enrichment activities. Children will explore the Center's diverse habitats on frequent trail walks. Indoor activities include visiting live animals, experiencing the assorted collections of the Center, as well as the museum exhibits.
Emphasis is on hands-on learning for the naturally curious young child. As preschoolers ask questions, teachers encourage them to find the answers through discussion, making guesses, using their senses, and experimenting. This use of the scientific method opens up pathways to lifelong learning in all curriculum areas.
