Job Description
Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director and the Assistant Aquatic Director, the currently certified lifeguard /Swim instructor is charged with effectively and safely supervising the pool or conducting swim lessons in accordance with the following policies established by the South Shore YMCA. These policies must be followed within the National YMCA guidelines.
Certifications:
• Current Lifeguard/First Aid Certification
• Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer or CPR for Lifeguards Certification
• Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification or similar (preferred but not always required if candidate possesses similar experience or has co-taught previous sessions).
Job Responsibilities:
Maintain a safe environment:
• Supervise your class at all times
• Conduct classes in a Consistent, Fair and Firm manner.
• Respond to situations, incidents, accidents and emergencies appropriately, calmly and professional.
• Protect the organization and patrons from harm or suit.
• Frequently familiarize yourself with the Aquatics Manual.
Maintain a pleasant and professional pool environment
• Clean up the swim equipment after each shift you work.
• Greet every member and/or participant with a smile and a friendly "Hello".
• Arrive prepared for your class five minutes before it starts.
• Arrive in swim suit.
• Record and report any faulty equipment and/or lapse in maintenance to the supervisor on duty.
• Be familiar with all information and answer questions about programs, schedules, policies or direct people to Aquatic Management.
• Work with fellow staff members and treat them with respect.
Qualifications
