Teens keep coming to our programs because they are surrounded by peers and positive role models. There are recreational activities as well as volunteers opportunities - it's focused fun!
Empowering youth to become tomorrow's successful leaders, today, is the focus of Teen Success. Students receive guidance about the application process for college and trade schools. Financial aid and FAFSA are demysitfied. They have the opportunity to visit local campuses. Mock interview sessions and resume writing workshops prepare them for first jobs and life in the work force. A mentoring program staffed by successful local professionals provides additional support. In a positve, healthy environment, teens explore their dreams and make solid plans to achieve them. Teen Success meets 6pm - 7pm on Thursdays from late October until May. From June through August, meetings are every other Thursday from 6PM - 7PM.
During the school year we offer a Teen Night, once a week. In a fun and safe environment, teens participate in neighborhood scavenger hunts, sports games, board games, outdoor activities, dance competitions, and much more.
Open to youth of all ages who like to be active, participants work with staff to learn the rules, run drills, and enjoy the game. The youth form leagues and create their own teams to compete at the end of the program in a Championship Game! The basketball program is offered two evenings a week in the summer.
One of the best ways to engage teens and to turn them into productive members of society is through employment. Throughout the course of the summer and school vacation weeks, we employ approximately 30 teens to work with the younger children. Most of the teens we employ were once campers here themselves!
As part of our camps every summer, we offer teens the opportunity to volunteer and stay involved in all of the great activities going on. Our Peer Leader program is for youth going into Grades 6-9. Teens between the ages 15-17 can also fill out volunteer packets and be part of our summer volunteer group. We train youth to assist our camp counselors with activities such as arts, games, swimming, water fun, sports, cooking, and dance. They can stay in groups of their peers or gain leadership skills by helping our camp staff plan activities for the younger camp groups. Most of our teens become a big part of the GNC family and return year after year, eventually becoming part of our staff.
