OUR MISSION

To provide a welcoming environment for all ages and abilities to explore and discover the wonder of the arts.

OUR HISTORY

Laura’s personal style of teaching was best measured by the way the children responded enthusiastically greeting her and trying to perform as she had taught them.  Laura’s passion for the South Shore YMCA’s “special kids” was always evident.  Whether on the court softly tossing tennis balls for players to hit or courtside exuberantly shouting encouragement during tournament matches, Laura’s love shined brightly. Laura’s Center for the Arts was inaugurated on February 13, 2013 in honor of Laura Emilson Riekert.

It wasn’t out of the ordinary to find Laura at a Special Olympics event surrounded by players, many of them dressed in a team jersey, provided by her for them to play in with pride and confidence.

Laura is greatly missed, but her memory is preserved in the name of this awe inspiring building designed to bring the arts to children of all ages.
