About Emilson's Partnership Program
The Partnership Program is a recreational, non-clinical program* designed specifically for people who need assistance and are interested in a structured exercise program. Our program serves individuals that need specialized, adaptive exercise equipment and/or one-on-one assistance. Volunteer training partners will assist participants with workouts designed to improve or maintain physical ability to stay active in sports, recreation, or activites of daily living. A volunteer will be provided based on ability.
*This program is recreational in nature and not to be considered rehabilitation.
How It Works
The Partnership Program takes place all across our facility and can be designed to fit individual goals and needs. A volunteer trainer will provide one-on-one instruction for initial program design and training on the equipment. Participants will begin with access in our Health & Well-being and Aquatic Centers and are encouraged to branch out to other Y areas. Your regular workout schedule will depend on you and your volunteer training partner's availability.
Health & Well-being Center
In the Health & Well-being Center, we have a variety of equipment dedicated to the Partnership Program, including:
- MotoMed Viva Cycle with FES
- Total Access Cybex
- Strength Equipment
- Seated Octane Elliptical
- TechnoGym Arm Ergometer
- Sci Fit Stepper
- Keiser Functional Trainer
- Raised Platform for Mat Exercises & Stretches
Training takes place in one of our two heated pools. Depending on each individual's situation, we will train you in either our lap or family pool. The lap pool is used for those who have either more mobility or have developed an acceptable level of comfort in the water, usually after gaining experience in the family pool, and can manage moving from one end of the pool to the other without an instructor in the water.
Water safety is our primary concern and each individual is always under supervision from the aquatics team and lifeguards who are permanently stationed in both pools.
Financial Assistance Opportunities
The Partnership Program is available to South Shore YMCA members at no additional cost. If you are unable to afford the cost of a membership, financial assistance is available. Pick up an application at the Welcome Desk. Money used to fund this program is raised each year by volunteers through our Annual Appeal.
