Active Older Adult Classes & Programs

The following are just some of the Active Older Adult Health & Fitness classes that are available as part of South Shore YMCA membership.

A Matter of Balance

Falling can be preventable! This free 8-week program is based on Fear of Falling: A Matter of Balance. This program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls. You will learn to: view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home, exercise to increase strength and balance. Ages 65+ or anyone with a fear of falling. FREE 8-week program for members and non-members. Registration required.

Tai Chi

This gentle exercise class incorporates stretching and deep breathing. The class meets weekly at Emilson Y or Quincy Y. Available for ages 18+. FREE and included with SSYMCA Membership. View our Schedules page for class times. No registration required for these drop-in classes.

Fall Prevention

The focus of this class is on strength training and balance. Based on Dr. Wayne Wescott’s research to achieve strength gains and better balance. He is the leader in his field in regard to research on the benefits of strength training. Enjoy the expertise and motivation of the staff as they lead you through an individualized program. Quincy Branch only. Registration required.
