South Shore YMCA

Outdoor Education

‚ÄčOutdoor Education guides young people into a new realm of interesting places, fun recreational activities, and new experiences with friends and family. The Y believes that when kids stretch their legs, explore new fields, and connect with the world around them, they grow into healthy, inspired, and confident adventurers who are fortified with a richer sense of their environment and a set of values that are based on an appreciation for the beauty of the natural outdoors.

Outdoor Education at
Camp Burgess & Hayward

Our Outdoor Education Center staff at Camp Burgess & Hayward have developed a rich array of "place-based" education programs. Typically classes are conducted in forests and meadows, on ocean beaches, and on boats in our freshwater ponds. We teach and learn in the outdoors as an alternative to the traditional classroom, using all of our senses to experience and learn about the world in which we live.
