Senior Programs
Older adults are some of our most loyal
YMCA members. Here at Mill Pond, seniors have a chance
to keep active and grow in spirit, mind and body. New
friends and new opportunities add joy to life! The Y
also gives older adults a chance to volunteer
their time and talents with others, such as children
and teens.
Health & Well-being Programs
Physical activity is essential in maintaining
a higher quality of life and independence among seniors.
Regular exercise provides many practical benefits, including
reducing the risk of diseases and conditions such as
diabetes, osteoporosis, coronary artery disease and
high blood pressure. Stronger muscles, better balance
and coordination, and higher energy levels all work
together to maintain or improve basic living skills.
Programs for active older adults that are
included as a benefit of Y membership include the Easy
Rider spin class, Stay Young Yoga, Lite and Lively,
Low Step & Sculpt, Senior Water Aerobics and treadmill
classes. These classes are offered as a benefit of the
YMCA membership.
Other fitness programs offered for a course
fee include a movement class called Nia, Strength Training,
Stretching, Senior Tennis, Qi Gong/Tai Chi and the Arthritis
Foundation Aqua Classes.
Special Interest Programs
In addition to fitness activities, other
Y programs that active older adults may enjoy include
a Ybooks Classic Book Club for Adults and the Live Y’ers.
