Red Cross Lifeguard Training

This is a 35-hour nationally-recognized certification program for those who wish to become lifeguards. Successful completion of this course provides certification in Lifeguard, Community First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.

Cost is $275 for members and $325 for non-members.

Prerequisites

  • Must be 15 years old by the conclusion of the class.
  • Be able to swim 300 yards (using freestyle and breastroke)
  • Swim 20 yards and retrieve a 10 pound brick from a depth of 9 feet and swim back with brick.

Classes this fall are as follows:

September 23- October 23, 2008
Tuesday, and Thursday from 6-10pm
or
December 27 thru December 30, 2008
Saturday- Tuesday from 9-5pm

Red Cross Water Safety Instruction Program

This is a 30-hour nationally-recognized certification program for those who wish to become swim instructors. If you are at least 16 years old, and a proficient swimmer, you can become an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and teach swimming lessons. Qualified instructors can also help prepare swim coaches to prevent and respond to emergency situations.

Cost is $300 for members and $375 for non-members

As a Water Safety Instructor you can:

  • Teach skills that may save a life
  • Gain terrific work experience as an aquatics professional
  • Help prepare swim coaches to prevent and respond to emergency situations.

Prerequisites:

  • Must be able to perform all strokes for 25 yards at an adequate level.
    • Front crawl (freestyle)
    • Back crawl
    • Sidestroke
    • Breastroke
    • Elementary backstroke
    • Butterfly (15 yards)
    • Float in deep water for one minute
    • Tread water for one minute

Class this fall are as follows:
September 29- November 3, 2008
Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30-9:30pm

Lifeguard Training Recertification

  • 300-yard swim: 100 yd front crawl, 100 yd breaststroke, 100 yd either front crawl or breast stroke.
  • Complete a 20 yd swim, surface dive, retrieve a 10 lb brick and swim it 20 yd back with the brick at the surface of the water or above it in a time limit of 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Candidate will need to successfully demonstrate all lifeguard, first aid, and CPR skills.

A Resuscitation Mask is required. If you do not have one they are available for purchase for $15. Books are not required but may be purchased for $40.
