Understanding the three main fitness components will enable you to develop an effective and efficient workout routine. Strength training builds muscle and increases your metabolism. Cardiovascular exercise strengthens your heart and physical capacity for exercise. Flexibility training improves range of motion and decreases injury risk. Together, along with a healthy nutrition program, they work to create a healthier you.

General exercise guidelines are provided by The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Dr. Wayne Westcott, Fitness Research Director for the South Shore YMCA and international fitness consultant, has written a number of articles on adult, senior and youth fitness. Sports fitness and information on cellulite reduction are also some of the topics available for your review.
