Our Cause Defines Us
We know that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together. That’s why at the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
Cause Advisory Boards
Developed with the goal to bring staff members, volunteers and community leaders together around the YMCA causes, our Cause Advisory Boards serve to raise funds and awareness of the programs that matter most to our community.
The Y is “America’s Swim Instructor” and the most accessible community resource to prevent drowning and encourage a lifelong enjoyment of swimming. The South Shore Y is committed to providing access to lifesaving water safety education and skills to all members of the South Shore community, empowering all to swim safely and confidently.
Medical Wellness and Partnership Program
With a commitment to health and wellness, the Y offers Weight Loss, Cancer Survivorship, Orthopedic, Fall Prevention and Cardiac programs, bridging the gap between clinical and community. Our Partnership Program, a recreational, non-clinical program, provides structured exercise and support for those with physical disabilities. Training partners assist with specialized, adaptive exercise and sports at no additional cost to participants.
The Y offers support and funds programming for individuals with developmental/ intellectual disabilities to engage in enrichment and wellness activities while fostering individual growth. These programs include social skills and development; participation in unified sports teams, swim instruction, summer camp and arts educational programs.
Every day, across our entire community, the South Shore Y provides programs and services to help individuals and families in need or at risk through mentoring, our food pantry, support groups, leadership workshops and educational support. Our Holiday Assistance Program gives hope and happier holidays to hundreds of families in need.
Farm and Environmental Education
Through our farms, camps, science center and educational services, the South Shore Y strives to bring community awareness to agriculture and provide children with nature-based STEM education with an emphasis on providing a positive impact on food security.
For over 130 years, Camp at the Y is a place where youth are inspired to learn, grow and thrive. Our cause is to provide more children with access to safe, quality resident and day camps, continuously improve and extend our facilities and services, and help more children in our community learn and discover the health benefits of the outdoors.
Early Learning and After School
Our Early Learning and After School programs are committed to the notion that all children benefit from a high-quality learning environment. Children and families need access to programs where they are nurtured in a safe, healthy, inclusive setting that offers a research-based curriculum, and embeds enrichment activities to enhance children’s opportunities to become well rounded learners for school and beyond.
