WHAT IS THE RODMAN RIDE FOR KIDS?

The Rodman Ride for Kids is an umbrella matching gift charity raising funds for youth-focused social service organizations supporting at-risk kids in Massachusetts. The Rodman Ride for Kids and its affiliated charities, including the South Shore YMCA, fundraise year-round culminating each fall with the Ride event, a 25, 50 and 100-mile non-competitive cycling tour.

Each affiliated charity team is assigned a fundraising goal. If that goal is met, the Rodman Ride for Kids will also award that organization a 3% matching gift.

Why We Ride

At the Germantown Neighborhood Center/South Shore YMCA, we help kids build resilience to reach their full potential. Combined with hope, support and dedication, our youth strive and succeed. Whether the hope is to attend college, to have a job or simply enjoy a safe place to be with friends. Our unique programming is designed to bring together children and teens of diverse backgrounds through programs and services that are accessible for everyone.

Our Impact

Teen SuccessThe Teen Success Program at the Y’s Germantown Neighborhood Center aims to set teens on a straight path to school and career success. Teens are matched with mentors from the local community, participate in workshops on everything from financial literacy to writing college application essays, and are given the chance to visit colleges with their mentors.

“I’ve known Semi, my mentee, for about a year and a half, through different programs at the Germantown Neighborhood Center; last summer Semi and I were put together in the mentoring program,” said Eric Mason, a GNC mentor. “It has been a truly exceptional process to watch Semi develop into the man he is today. One of the biggest misconceptions I had going into this process was that in order to be a mentor you have to be a perfect. You don’t. Semi and I bonded more over sharing the lessons I learned through mistakes than anything else. I learned one absolute that summarizes the whole mentoring program; mentoring isn’t about being perfect it is about being present.”
