South Shore YMCA Receives $10,000 Grant from YMCA of the USA for Swim Scholarships

Posted: May. 07, 2025

As May marks National Water Safety Month, the South Shore YMCA is proud to announce it has received a $10,000 grant from YMCA of the USA’s Strategic Initiatives Fund to expand swim scholarships for children across the South Shore. This vital funding will help more families access life-saving swim lessons and water safety education—regardless of financial circumstance.

Drowning remains one of the leading causes of accidental death in children. At the South Shore YMCA, we are committed to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn to swim and gain the confidence to stay safe in and around water.

“We are incredibly grateful for this support from YMCA of the USA’s Strategic Initiatives Fund,” said Ashley Genrich-Bishop, Association Aquatics Lead for the South Shore YMCA. “This grant will directly impact families in our community by breaking down financial barriers and providing lifesaving swim lessons to children who may not otherwise have access.”

As we recognize National Water Safety Month, the Y continues its mission to ensure all children are equipped with the skills they need to stay safe and thrive in the water.
