Holiday Assistance

Making Holidays Brighter

The South Shore YMCA Holiday Assistance Program provides gifts, holiday meals, coats, and clothing — plus engaging Y programs like camp, swim lessons, and membership — to thousands of South Shore families each year. Through generous contributions and support from local businesses, organizations, individuals, and volunteers, we can bring a light of hope during the holidays and all year round to those who need it most. This critical program gives much more than just material possessions for a holiday celebration: it brings a sense of belonging and creates a desire to give back.

The program is available to qualified residents within our service area: Braintree, Cohasset, Hanover, Hingham, Holbrook, Hull, Norwell, Quincy, Randolph, Scituate, and Weymouth.

Volunteers Pack Thanksgiving Meals with Love

Over 75 South Shore YMCA staff and volunteers gathered together on November 21 to help fill 1700 boxes with all the items to make a complete Thanksgiving meal for a family. Thanks to our donors, volunteers, and community partners, 1700 local families will start the holiday season with a healthy and hearty Thanksgiving dinner.  Volunteers Pack Thanksgiving Meals with Love

How You Can Help

There are a variety of ways you, your family and friends, or your business/organization can get involved to help our community this holiday season.

Donate Gifts from our Community Wish List

So many families need help filling their children's holiday list. By selecting gifts from our Community Wish List and donating them to the Y, we can help families in need to make the holidays brighter. We are actively looking for teen gifts, including winter coats, wireless headphones, and gift cards. Holiday Wish List

Adopt a Family

When you choose to adopt a local family for our Holiday Assistance Program, you create a brighter holiday for a local family who needs help making ends meet. Contact Kathy Quigley at for details on how you can adopt a family. A great opportunity for a group of friends, colleagues or family members to contribute together and spread some holiday cheer. Give the Gift of Opportunity at the Y

Give a child an everlasting gift of opportunity through Y programs. Consider sending a child to camp, providing swim lessons, or giving the gift of good health through family membership. A certificate of your Y gift will be wrapped and delivered to the child/family for the holidays. Simply download and complete our Holiday Program Giving Sheet, and return it to the Y with your payment. Also, donations of backpacks, water bottles, towels, and other items can be donated to package with your gift. Contact Mary Orne,, 781-264-9453, for details. Giving Sheet

Local families and children need help during the holidays...and beyond. Donations do more than provide holiday gifts, they help us to provide nutritious food and warm clothing, and help keep children and teens engaged all year long. Your donation can help sustain our food pantry to feed our neighbors in need and make the holidays brighter for all. Donate
