A Gift of Shade and Shelter: The Clark Family Enhances Camp Gordon Clark

Posted: Jun. 15, 2025

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of Alex and Davis Clark, Camp Gordon Clark at the South Shore YMCA’s Emilson branch in Hanover has taken a meaningful step forward in enriching the summer camp experience for children across the South Shore.

With the Clarks’ donation, a brand-new pavilion has been erected on the campground, providing essential shade from the sun, reliable shelter on rainy days, and a flexible space that elevates the overall camp environment. More than just a physical addition, the pavilion stands as a symbol of the YMCA’s ongoing commitment to safety, accessibility, and community, not to mention four generations of volunteer leadership on behalf of the Clark family.

The pavilion expands Camp Gordon Clark’s capacity to serve more campers each week and throughout the entire summer season. By creating a covered space for group activities, meals, and downtime, the pavilion enhances programming capabilities and ensures that camp remains a vibrant and welcoming place regardless of weather conditions. This means more children can explore the outdoors, build friendships, and grow in confidence under the careful guidance of our camp staff.

“Davis and I are very pleased to continue our family’s legacy of supporting the South Shore YMCA,” said Alex Clark. “ We hope that our donation to build the pavilion at Camp Gordon Clark will help enhance our campers’ summer experiences for years and years to come.”

South Shore YMCA President and CEO Paul Gorman shared his gratitude: “We are incredibly thankful to Alex and Davis Clark for their generosity and commitment to youth development. Their gift strengthens our ability to serve more children and provide them with safe, enriching, and joyful summer experiences at Camp Gordon Clark.”

The South Shore YMCA is proud to honor the Clark family’s legacy and deeply values their partnership in building a brighter future for our community’s youth.
