Blue Cross Blue Shield MA Day of Service at the SSYMCA

Posted: Sep. 23, 2021

Thursday, September 23 was Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts’s eleventh annual Service Day: One Community, One Blue. This year, the South Shore YMCA Germantown Neighborhood Center was selected as an in-person site for Service Day. Blue Cross Blue Shield also presented a grant to support the food pantry and community center.

Volunteers spent the day tending to our gardens, landscaping, and helping in our food pantry to give back to the community. All the produce in the community garden was harvested and prepared for distribution at our food pantry before winterizing the gardens. The center grounds were mowed, weeded, and edged.

Inside the center, volunteers cleaned and organized shelves in the food pantry before unloading donations from the Greater Boston Food Bank. Bags of food were then set up and prepared for the Friday morning food service.

We are thankful for the support and generosity from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and look forward to more events with their team.
