Burgin Platner & Co brings Easter joy to South Shore YMCA Germantown Neighborhood Center kids

Posted: Apr. 02, 2021

QUINCY (APRIL 2, 2021) – To children, the Easter Bunny represents comfort, joy and, of course, goodies. This year, the team at Burgin Platner and Company returned to the Y to spread that joy with the help of the Easter Bunny.

On Thursday, April 1, the Easter Bunny handed out 75 Easter baskets, donated by the staff at Burgin Platner, to smiling children of all ages at the SSYMCA Germantown Neighborhood Center, including students attending the Y’s Remote Learning Care program.

Each spring, Burgin Platner and Company employees, led by Phyllis O’Mahoney, personally organize and assemble dozens of Easter baskets to brighten the day for children at the South Shore YMCA Germantown Neighborhood Center programs and in the surrounding neighborhood.

“It is special to help other people,” said O’Mahoney. “It’s what we do. Everyone needs a little help. We wanted to brighten lives during this time of year.”

Burgin Platner helps the community by adopting families during the South Shore Y holiday assistance program each year at Christmastime. The team wanted to provide something special this spring as people need a bit of hope while emerging from the isolation and other effects of COVID-19.

Michael Prendergast, President of Burgin Platner and Company, saw his employees putting together baskets and wanted to make them extra special this year. So, the company included a Golden Egg in each basket that contained a $20 bill for each child to buy something special.

“We are so thankful to the team at Burgin Platner and Company for bringing joy to our children each year, especially this year,” said South Shore YMCA Vice President of Development, Mary Orne. “The Golden Egg was an unexpected surprise, which we all need during these difficult times.”
