PRESS RELEASE

FROM THE OFFICE OF MICHAEL W. MORRISSEY, NORFOLK DISTRICT ATTORNEY

Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey stopped by the Germantown Neighborhood Center to deliver a $4,000 grant from his office to help fund the center’s work reaching out to families at increased risk during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

“Early in the shutdown, the Germantown food pantry began serving four times as many families as usual. That gave them the opportunity to do outreach to four times as many people, providing information on domestic violence services, support for at-risk youth, and others in need, ” District Attorney Morrissey said. “Keeping families strong, supported, and plugged-in to social services during this period is an important arm of crime prevention work. I’m pleased to support that.”

“The Germantown Neighborhood Center and South Shore YMCA are extremely grateful and appreciative for the generosity and gift from the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office. To have D.A. Morrissey to come and take time out of his busy schedule truly reiterates his belief and passion for the community of Germantown and the impact the Neighborhood Center has on its participants,” YMCA Senior Executive Director Patrick Murphy said.

“We at the South Shore YMCA are proud to offer healthy alternatives in the afternoon and on the weekends that provide positive outlets needed for all youth to grow into tomorrow’s leaders,” Murphy said. “The funds donated today will go to quick use providing those meaningful programs in a safe and nurturing environment for the youth of Germantown that we serve.”
