SOUTH SHORE YMCA

Member Giving Day is Wednesday, May 15!

Posted: Apr. 26, 2019

As the region’s leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the South Shore YMCA works side-by-side with its neighbors every day to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. When you join the South Shore YMCA, you belong to a community that serves all people, regardless of age, ability, gender, race, religion, or economic circumstances. To ensure this is possible, the Y relies on charitable donations to its Annual Campaign from Y members, volunteers, businesses and members of the community.

Each year, the South Shore YMCA raises money to give back to individuals and families across the South Shore who cannot afford to pay the full price for Y programs and services. For example, if a family would like to send a child to summer camp but is unable to do so for any financial reason, assistance is available.

“As one of three children with a single mother, I have seen firsthand what it is like to struggle,” shared a member of the South Shore Y. “I know that camp would not have been a possibility for my siblings and me if it weren’t for the generosity of others.”

Thanks to this generosity, the South Shore YMCA helps rebuild bodies, minds and spirits when life takes unexpected turns, ensuring that education, health and wellness services, and self-improvement is available to everyone in the community. Through financial assistance, the Y is able to open doors to joyous summer camps, child care and early learning, a bustling food pantry, farms, an arts center, a nature center, life-saving swim lessons, social services, and more.

“The YMCA has offered me a truly non-judgmental place to work out and because they have helped me with financial aid, I actually go now and have been able to lose weight, become healthier and feel better about myself,” said Y member Cathylee Melchin.

On Wednesday, May 15, the South Shore Y will celebrate its members’ role in improving the lives of our friends and neighbors here locally with its 2019 Member Giving Day. Together, the Y community can continue to make a difference in the lives of thousands of people across the South Shore. Members and non-members alike are encouraged to show support by making a donation to the Y that can change lives for the better.

The YMCA provides the community with quality programs that help children, teens, families and seniors live healthy and productive lives. If you live, work, or own a business in the area, you can be assured that your donation is making the South Shore a better place to live, work and raise a family.
