SOUTH SHORE YMCA

Member Giving Day Warms Hearts

Posted: Mar. 13, 2020

Every year, the South Shore YMCA raises approximately $3 million to return to the South Shore in the form of financial assistance applicable to all Y programs and services. Those dollars come from all over. They come from donors from all walks of life who want to give back to their community. They come from individuals, coporations, foundations, Y staff, and volunteers.

One day per year, the Y makes a targeted ask to its members to support the annual campaign. It’s called, simply, Member Giving Day.

“It’s a day we have truly come to love at the Y,” said Michelle Duggan, Senior Development Director for the South Shore YMCA. “Donations to the Y mean access for all. Our members know better than most what benefits are associated with access. Each dollar donated helps a friend or neighbor on the South Shore enroll in everything from swim lessons to camp to medical wellness programs. Our members see their donations in action every day when they visit the Y.”

Member Giving Day took place in multiple South Shore YMCA locations on Wednesday, March 11, including the Quincy Y, the Emilson Y in Hanover, the South Shore Natural Science Center and ZoneWellness in Norwell, and more. Hundreds of members stopped to meet with Y staff to make their donations prior to or after workouts, swims, educational programs and more. One hundred percent of each gift is returned to the community.

“Member Giving Day was an uplifting, impactful day across the South Shore YMCA,” said Paul Gorman, President an CEO of the Y, citing the collaborative power behind the annual campaign. “Together, we can continue to ensure that the South Shore YMCA is a place where everyone can truly belong and become their better selves, in spirit, mind and body.”
