Overnight Camp Will Resume in 2021

July 3, 2020

Dear Camp Burgess & Hayward families,

It is with sadness that I have to inform you that we will not be able to run Camp Burgess and Hayward overnight camps for this summer. On July 2, the State of Massachusetts reported that overnight camps will not be allowed to reopen until 2021. The information can be found under “Recreation & outdoors” at www.mass.gov/info-details/reopening-when-can-my-business-reopen.

From all of us here at the South Shore YMCA, please know how deeply sorry we are. Having led Camp for twenty-five years,  I know how important Camp is to you and your children, and the lasting impact it can have.  Even in the time of this pandemic, you were willing to wait and see if we could pull off another summer Camp of magic, of providing a sense of belonging and community in a time when kids need it more than ever.

On Monday I will send a detailed email about the cancellation process and the different options available to registered Camp Burgess & Hayward families. This will include donating some or all of your fees to help us sustain until next year, and/or putting a credit towards reserving a space for next year.

And there will be a next year. As memorable as any in our 92 year history.

I wish you and your family a wonderful 4th of July holiday.

Send a Kid to Camp

Although overnight camps may not run in 2020, many families still need help sending their children to day camp for social connections and outdoor adventures. Your donation can help send a kid in need to day camp.
