To Our South Shore YMCA Family,
As I prepare to retire and conclude my tenure as CEO of the South Shore YMCA after 16 incredible years, I find myself reflecting on the countless ways our Y has partnered with you, our members, volunteers, and neighbors, to create meaningful change in our community. One program that truly embodies the spirit of the Y is Hope for the Holidays.
What began decades ago as a small group of teachers collecting toys in a school basement has grown into a vibrant, volunteer-driven effort that this year will provide gifts to nearly 900 local children. From warm clothing and pajamas to toys, bikes, and books, these donations bring joy and hope to families facing challenges during the holiday season.
This year, our “North Pole” operations center once again transformed the Hale Family YMCA field house into a hub of generosity. On the bright green turf, volunteer “elves” worked tirelessly to organize and distribute gifts, reminding us that the heart of the Y beats strongest when we come together for others.
The program is powered entirely by the kindness of this community. Each year, we hear stories of donors and volunteers who once received gifts themselves and now give back—a beautiful cycle of compassion that defines who we are.
To everyone who donated, adopted wish lists, or volunteered your time: thank you for making this the best Christmas ever for so many children. Your support ensures that the Y remains a beacon of hope, not just during the holidays, but all year long.
As I step into retirement, I carry with me deep gratitude for the friendships, partnerships, and shared mission that have shaped my life. I wish you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a new year filled with peace and possibility.
With gratitude,
Paul J. Gorman
CEO, South Shore YMCA
