FOXBORO, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2022 – A team of staff and volunteers from the South Shore YMCA gathered with fellow youth-focused charities to raise money for at-risk youth programs and services through the annual Rodman Ride for Kids in Foxboro.

The South Shore Y team raised $30,000 to date to support its continued programming for local kids in need.

“This event is so special to our Y because of our long history with the Rodman for Kids organization, who share our commitment to youth development,” said Josh Esquivel, Community Outreach Director, who coordinated the South Shore YMCA team.

Rodman for Kids is a non-profit that raises funds for youth-focused social service organizations in Massachusetts. The Rodman Ride for Kids annual event offers organizations, such as the South Shore YMCA, a platform to raise money for their programs.

The Y team of cyclists joined other charities for the 25- or 50-mile bike ride in Foxboro as part of this annual event. This year’s ride was an in-person event with a virtual component for at-home riders to raise funds and ride anywhere.

Riders for the South Shore Y team included 50-mile riders Anand Merchant, HR Coordinator for South Shore YMCA, and Bob Doherty. Harold Gerbis, Steve Tower, and Clark Owen, all friends from Quincy Mutual, also rode as part of the South Shore Y team, along with Officers Billy Mitchell, Matthew Miller, Stephen Cleary, Gary Mar, and Joe Yee from the Quincy Police Department. A team from Acella Construction rode in support of the Y. South Shore YMCA staff and local teens, led by Esquivel, volunteered to help out at the event.

“Special thanks to all our riders, volunteers and supporters,” said South Shore YMCA President and CEO, Paul Gorman. “The Rodman Ride for Kids is about community engagement and teamwork for a cause that is close to all of our hearts – helping kids thrive. Now, more than ever, kids need the connection and support of the Y.”
