The South Shore YMCA is excited to announce that we have received a $42,188 Food Security Infrastructure Grant from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources. This grant will significantly enhance our efforts to fight food insecurity on the South Shore by enabling us to expand our capacity to grow fresh, nutritious food at our Family Farm in Hanover.
With the funding, we will de-pave 8,000 square feet of concrete to create new growing areas, effectively doubling our ability to produce food for local food pantries. Additionally, we will run water from our well to our barn and greenhouse, ensuring sustainable access to water for our crops.
We are incredibly grateful to the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources for this generous support and for sharing our vision of creating a healthier, more food-secure community. By expanding our farm’s capacity, we will be able to provide even more fresh produce to those in need, making a tangible difference in the fight against hunger on the South Shore.
This grant represents a critical step in our ongoing commitment to food justice and sustainability. Together, we are growing stronger communities, one harvest at a time.
