On Saturday, March 8, Butch Stearns at Boston 25 News visited the South Shore YMCA Emilson Branch in Hanover to cover its wheelchair and inclusive tennis programs for his In-Depth Sports segment.

The South Shore YMCA’s inclusive programming assists individuals with developmental disabilities or special needs to become independent, engaged, and successful at the Y and beyond. Featured in Stearns’ piece was the Emilson YMCA Tennis Team, staff and volunteers who were highlighted for their dedication and passion to our tennis community, making sure that the sport is available for all.

The Y offers support and funds programming for individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities to engage in enrichment and wellness activities while fostering individual growth. These programs include social skills and development; participation in unified sports teams such as tennis, swim instruction, summer camp and arts educational programs.

At the South Shore YMCA, we continue to expand our inclusive programming to better serve our members with disabilities.
