To our South Shore YMCA Community,

Today, a South Shore YMCA staff member received an emailed, non-site-specific bomb threat that was quickly confirmed by police to be a hoax. All facilities have been cleared as safe for reentry.

Our Y team acted instantly, following our YMCA Emergency Procedures and protocols exactly. We evacuated all buildings and called in the Quincy and Hanover Police Departments, who responded immediately and, with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police, thoroughly searched our YMCA facilities and Early Learning Centers with bomb-sniffing dogs.

All Emergency Childcare Center children were evacuated, and their families were immediately notified. Most parents gave authorization for their children to return safely to the buildings once the police confirmed the building was safe and clear.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly at pgorman@ssymca.org, or our Chief Operating Officer, Trevor Williams at twilliams@ssymca.org. The safety of our staff and the people and children entrusted in our care are always our number one priority, and we are extremely thankful as always to the Quincy, Hanover and Massachusetts State Police Departments for their swift action, protection and service.

Thank you,

Paul Gorman
