On Friday, May 3, The South Shore Chamber hosted their 7th Annual South Shore Health & Wellness Fair at the South Shore YMCA Emilson branch in Hanover.

The fair was free and open to the public, with hundreds of participants visiting throughout the duration of the fair to learn about local health and wellness businesses, programs and support services.

“The Y is more than fitness, they’re about building communities and they’re very involved in helping build a stronger region,” said Peter Forman, President and CEO of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce. “The Y has been an active part of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce for many years. For us, it’s more than connecting businesses, its about connecting the community. We have a very close relationship with the Y, and we’re very grateful for that.”

Over 30 participants were onsite to educate and provide demonstrations for attendees in categories like dentistry, urgent care, pediatrics, eye care, massage therapy, sports medicine, chiropractic care, and more.

“The Friendship Home and the Y have had a positive and strong relationship with the Y for a number of years,” said Mike Gaffey, Respite Director of the Friendship Home and participant of the 2019 Health and Wellness Fair. “Many of our participants come here to utilize the gym, pool, and other programs and services. It’s important to get out, get around, involved and be active.”

New to the event this year, The American Red Cross held a Blood Drive during the event with nearly 40 people donating.

Blood donor Rachel Green summarized her donation experience by saying “I think the fact that our YMCA, the South Shore Chamber and The American Red Cross is bringing all of this together today gives great access to our community. This is a place that hundreds of people come in and out of every day – and to be able to give a bit of yourself in this way here at the Y through a gift that can’t be duplicated is truly priceless.”
