The South Shore YMCA runs programs across the South Shore and on Cape Cod and serves to improve the lives of the local residents in mind, body and spirit. Because the Y is a charity, they raise funds each year to give back to the community. That means that every dollar raised through its annual fundraising campaign is accessible to anyone in need and applicable to any program. For example, if a family cannot afford to pay for a quality preschool education for a young child, the Y, through its financial assistance process, will provide scholarship support. If a family cannot afford to send a kid to camp, the Y can provide the funding needed to ensure that this opportunity is available to all. If a parent, grandparent or caregiver wishes to find a new pathway to health in 2019 but feels he or she can’t afford to, the Y can help both with financial assistance as well as in-branch babysitting so that kids can play and have fun while their caregiver has the opportunity to get and stay on a healthier track.

While the South Shore YMCA’s 1,000 or so employees wear the YMCA logo and pledge to help each individual who walks through the door, it’s the Y’s donors who provide the access. These funds are combined to create resources that even the playing field for all. In other words, if you’ve ever thought “I can’t afford the Y,” think again; friends, neighbors, and community members make it affordable to all every day with their generous contributions.

Here are just a few examples of the programs running in 2019. At the Quincy Y, you’ll always find sports being played in the Briggs Family Field House from Soccer to Table Tennis, and in the attached State Street Early Learnings Center, full-time and part-time programs are available for toddler, preschool, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms. In North Quincy, the Y’s early learning center provides quality education and child care for kids from 6 weeks to 5 years old. Across the city, the Germantown Neighborhood Center runs after school programs to keep kids safe, fed and engaged in learning activities between the time school gets out and mom and dad get home from work.

In Hanover, the Emilson Y is open for swimming, group exercise classes of all kinds and tennis programs for all ages. Located just a short walk away from the Emilson YMCA, Laura’s Center for the Arts offers music, dance, theater, painting and more. Just down the street the Early Learning Center welcomes young children as in North Quincy and numerous other locations. The Y’s gymnastics program shares the same building, and behind it, the new SSYMCA Family Farm is growing food for local food pantries.

In Norwell, ZoneWellness is one of three South Shore Y locations running medical wellness programs. The South Shore Natural Science Center is gearing up for another active year in STEM education, and across Norwell and Scituate the Y operates afterschool programs in numerous elementary schools. And out in Sandwich, Camp Burgess and Hayward are awaiting the warmer days of summer, but in the meantime are inviting youths from the South Shore and beyond to join them on adventure trips like skiing and snowboarding.

Please contact the Y if you are interested in any of the programs above, or any other program we run. Financial assistance is available to help provide opportunities to all. We welcome you to join us in your quest to be the better you in 2019. Learn more by visiting www.ssymca.org.
