South Shore residents are invited to embrace their inner elf along with Laura’s Center for the Arts as they present their production of Elf Jr. The Musical. The show premieres on November 30 running through December 2 with three performances scheduled on Friday and Saturday night at 7pm, a Sunday matinee at 2pm. This production is directed by Tyler Cavanagh, with musical direction by Nicole Fantasia.

“This show is an amazing celebration of the Holiday season, and we are excited to share it with the families of the South Shore,” said Tyler Cavanagh, Assistant Director, Arts and Education, The SSYMCA’s Laura’s Center for the Arts. “While the show centers around Buddy the Elf and his new family, the cast of actors playing New Yorkers, Macy’s Employees, and Elves really bring this show to life, and about showing our audiences what we can create when we work together as a team. Our actors represent a wide range of abilities, experience, and age, and this creates beautiful learning opportunities both on stage and off for our actors, helping them to grow as performers and as people, and that aspect is what burns at the heart of theatre education. We can’t wait to make this holiday season sparkle-jolly-twinkle-jingley for our community with Elf Jr. The Musical!”

30 local children will participate in the performance, and they hail from towns across the South Shore including Cohasset, Hanover, Hanson, Hingham, Marshfield, Norwell, Pembroke, Rockland, Scituate and Weymouth.

Elf Jr. The Musical is based on the 2003 New Line Cinema hit and features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar (The Wedding Singer) and Chad Beguelin (Disney’s Aladdin On Broadway, The Wedding Singer), a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone).

The musical tells the story of a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is given the name Buddy and raised by elves in the North Pole.  Buddy lives happily unaware that he is actually a human until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list, and his stepbrother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of the holidays.

Elf Jr. The Musical is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).  All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI, www.MTIShows.com.

Celebrate this modern-day holiday classic by creating new memories and moments when you bring a new, unwrapped toy to any Elf, Jr. performance. Your generous donation will directly benefit a child of the South Shore YMCA’s Germantown Neighborhood Center this holiday season.

ELF Jr. the Musical will take place on November 30, December 1, and 2 at Laura’s Center for the Arts at 96 Mill Street, Hanover MA, 02339. Friday and Saturday night’s performances will begin at 7pm with a Sunday matinee at 2pm. Tickets are on sale now! $10 for adults and $5 for children. To purchase tickets, visit www.ssymca.org.
