South Shore residents are invited to Laura’s Center for the Arts as the cast of local South Shore children will soon present The Little Mermaid JR. The show premieres on Friday, May 31, Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 with three performances scheduled on Friday and Saturday night at 7pm, a Sunday matinee at 2pm.

Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture (featuring the enormously popular Academy Award-winning music and delightfully charming book and lyrics). Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories, Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance.

“Growing up on the beaches of the South Shore, The Little Mermaid was always one of my favorite Disney movies, and getting to present such a classic with our own twist is really fun!” said Tyler Cavanagh, Assistant Director, Arts & Education, Laura’s Center for the Arts. “In addition to our talented performers this season, we have several students who have taken on leadership roles within our production team, assisting with rehearsals, designing aspects of the show, and learning alongside our faculty and volunteers to learn the behind the scenes of the theatre world! We couldn’t be prouder of what our students have created both on and off stage, and we can’t wait to share that with the public!”

In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home — and her fins — behind and live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking.

Written to flow seamlessly between land and sea, Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR. provides plenty of opportunities to bring these locations to life through creative movement and configurations.

The Little Mermaid JR. The Musical will take place on Friday, May 31, Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 at Laura’s Center for the Arts at 96 Mill Street, Hanover MA, 02339. Friday and Saturday night’s performances will begin at 7pm with a Sunday matinee at 2pm. Tickets are on sale now! $10 for adults and $5 for children. To purchase tickets, contact Tyler Cavanagh, at tcavanagh@ssymca.org or 781-829-8585 ext. 8336.
