Healthy Eating

Healthy Eating for the Community

With a food pantry, family garden, cooking classes and teaching kitchen, we are dedicated to bringing better nutrition to our community.

Cooking Matters

With a professional chef and nutrition instructor, learn how to prepare delicious, healthy meals on a budget.  Even if you’re a well-seasoned cook, you’re sure to pick up some new tips and pointers about nutrition.  Each week, you’ll try out a new recipe and enjoy it together as a group.  There’s also a field trip to a local grocery store to unlock secrets of maximizing your food budget.  Bring your friends to this fun and informative class! Childcare and dinner provided.

Cooking Matters Kids

Cooking Matters Kids is an after-school, hands-on cooking class where children learn how to prepare delicious, healthy, and inexpensive meals, working together with a professional chef and nutritional expert in a fun-filled environment. They can then share these delicious recipes, nutritional information and cooking skills with their families. Grades 4 & 5

Food Pantry

The Germantown Neighborhood Center Food Pantry has been providing low-income households in Quincy with fresh and non-perishable foods since 2006. Our Food Pantry allows us to assist by providing households with a week’s worth of groceries, providing critical support to hundreds of families each month. The Food Pantry is open year-round, two mornings and one evening per week to accommodate different schedules.

Victory Garden & Garden Club

Through the Germantown Neighborhood Center Victory Garden, neighbors can learn the fine art of gardening in all phases of growing plants, roses, perennials and vegetables, while providing fresh produce for the food bank and cooking classes.

Each year our outdoor gardens make huge leaps in food production and keep the grounds looking beautiful. The Victory Garden offers volunteers and neighbors the chance to learn from Master Gardener Paul Mollica, who shares over 40 years’ experience in the greenhouse business growing plants and vegetables. Contact us to learn how you can enjoy gardening through volunteering.
