Environment

ArtsCamp takes place at Laura’s Center for the Arts, a gift to the community that allows the Y to provide access to the arts. This vibrant cultural center provides an opportunity for both indoor and outdoor art experiences, productions, choreography, music, state-of-the-art lighting and sound technology. Campers enjoy performances from musicians and artists in a myriad of styles and genres, providing a cultural playground for the South Shore. Ample visual art space rouses campers to embrace and celebrate their creativity, explore their creative world, and challenge them to experience the arts not only as an audience but also as an active participant.

National Inclusion Project

At South Shore YMCA Day Camp we support a traditional camp environment that is welcoming to all campers. By partnering with families and identified support systems, campers with developmental or other challenges will be provided with the opportunity for a successful camp experience. Through the National Inclusion Project partnership, we are able to offer inclusion training for all camp staff under the direction of the SSYMCA’s inclusion leadership staff. Campers are fully integrated into this traditional day camp experience and should be able to participate independently in standard staff ratios. In order to ensure success at camp, please indicate interest in accessing inclusion supports when registering for camp. A staff member will contact you to learn more about your child and to discuss the type of support needed to make the experience successful for your camper. For more information about inclusion supports contact: cgc@ssymca.org.

Director & Staff

We take great pride in our dedicated camp staff of teaching professionals and local college and high school students who go through comprehensive camp counselor training. YMCA day camp is run by a full-time, year-round YMCA director with extensive camp experience. We also have a fully licensed nurse on-site during regular camp hours. Each year approximately 75% of our camp staff are returning counselors. All have been interviewed, and have references, CORI, and SORI background checks completed.
