#YCONS: Celebrating the People Who Make the Y
As part of the YMCA’s 175th anniversary, YMCAs across the country are coming together to celebrate the people who bring our mission to life every day. We’re proud to share that our Y is joining this national storytelling movement called #YCONS (Y Icons).
What Is the #YCONS Campaign?
#YCONS is a national social media campaign that highlights the staff, members, volunteers, donors, and partners who represent the heart and spirit of the Y. These stories show how our mission comes to life through everyday actions, meaningful connections, and moments that make a difference.
Rather than focusing on programs or facilities, #YCONS celebrates the people who make our Y what it is.
Who Is a #YCON?
A #YCON is someone who lives out the Y’s values and positively impacts others. They might be:
- A staff member who goes above and beyond
- A volunteer who shows up consistently with heart
- A member who helps create a welcoming environment
- A donor or partner who helps make our work possible
#YCONS aren’t about titles or tenure, they’re about impact, connection, and community.

How to Nominate a #YCON
We’re inviting staff to help identify and nominate #YCONS from across our association. If you know someone who embodies the spirit of the Y, we’d love to hear about them.
For each nomination, we’re simply looking for:
- The person’s name
- Some background information (their role or connection to the Y)
- A bit about their story
- What makes them a #YCON
To submit a nomination, fill out the form below.
We’ll tell the stories of our #YCONS in a variety of ways, including video, photos, text, testimonials, and more. There are many ways a #YCON story may come to life.
Staff are welcome and encouraged to include photos or content with their submissions if they have them, but it’s not required. All nominees will be informed of their nomination, and the Marketing team will coordinate a time to meet with each selected #YCON to capture photos and video before their story is featured.
