Dear South Shore YMCA Members,
Hello! My name is Serah Selmon and I’m excited to introduce myself as the new Chief Operating Officer for South Shore YMCA.
As part of our strategic plan, we are deeply committed to investing in our facilities and infrastructure to ensure long-term sustainability. We are reimagining our spaces to meet the needs of today, while intentionally preparing for the possibilities of tomorrow. Every improvement we make brings us closer to a Y where health, wellness, and community are accessible to all.
In support of this commitment, and alongside our incredible branch leadership: VP of Hale Operations Katelyn Szafir and VP of Emilson Operations Dan Berry, and our dedicated operations and facilities staff, we will be undertaking several major improvement and safety projects at both of our branches this spring and summer.
While we are excited about the impact these projects will have on your overall Y experience and our Y’s long-term sustainability, we also recognize that this work will involve temporary disruptions, including some equipment relocation, short-term closures, and adapted routines. Trust us when we tell you that we don’t like the disruption either, but we’ll ensure we get through to the other side, together! We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we invest in the future of our Y.
Upcoming Improvement & Safety Projects – Spring & Summer 2026
The South Shore YMCA will complete three major projects at the Hale Family Y in Quincy and the Emilson Y in Hanover:
- Hale Family Y – Fitness Flooring Project May 7 – (estimated) June 21, 2026 (approximately 6 weeks)
- Emilson Y – Locker Room Project May 26 – June 5, 2026 (approximately 2 weeks)
- Emilson Y – Pool Sprinkler Safety Project August 2 – September 13, 2026 (approximately 6 weeks)
Each of these projects represents a meaningful step in strengthening our infrastructure, enhancing safety, and creating welcoming, functional spaces that better serve our members and community, now and for years to come.
We will continue to provide ongoing updates, including timelines and temporary adjustments, as each project approaches. For the latest details, please visit: URL to come
Thank you for being a valued part of our South Shore YMCA community and for your continued trust in us. We look forward to welcoming you into improved spaces that reflect our shared commitment to health, connection, and belonging.
Sincerely,
Serah Selmon
