The countdown to the Summer Olympics is on! Our future Olympic gymnasts are practicing their skills and techniques with summer gymnastics programs at the South Shore YMCA.

After a year of remote learning, social distancing, and limited social activities, kids are back on the floor with their friends learning to tumble, run, jump and twist together. Parents are able to observe class in person once again, watching firsthand as their gymnasts learn and play together. “There’s noise in the gym again,” says our SSYMCA Gymnastics Director Andrea Millis, “the kids are having fun.”

We kicked off the summer with the addition of the NEW gymnastics program out of our Quincy YMCA branch. This program introduces tiny tumblers ages 1-4 to the world of gymnastics and basic skills. Since starting this program, the South Shore YMCA has been able to expand our gymnastics community, welcoming young new gymnasts and families who have never been to the gym before.

At the South Shore YMCA Gymnastics Center in Hanover, our Y now offers gymnastics birthday parties for members. Kids can enjoy an hour of fun in the gym with gymnastics, games, and obstacle courses, followed by food or cake outside at our picnic tables (weather permitting).

This summer also brings the return of our YMCA Gymnastics Camp, which filled up quickly this summer. Here, kids learn to roll, flip and swing, spending half the day in our state-of-the-art, air-conditioned gymnastics facility learning, working skills on all four Olympic events, or on our in-ground trampoline and foam training pit, instructed by our trained gymnastics coaches. The rest of the day is spent exploring traditional camp activities, including daily swim!

We look forward to offering more gymnastics classes in our Quincy YMCA branch and Hanover gymnastics center this fall as we continue to grow our gymnastics community and offerings.
