Welcoming Week 2019

The Y is made up of people of all ages and from every walk of life working side by side to strengthen communities. In the spirit of being stronger together, from Friday, September 13 — Sunday, September 22, The South Shore YMCA has joined 75 other YMCAs across the country taking part in Welcoming Week 2019.

Founded by the Y’s national partner Welcoming America, Welcoming Week is a national celebration in which community-based organizations host events that bring together all neighbors — both immigrants and U.S.-born residents — from all backgrounds to honor what unites us as a community!

Rooted in the fact that communities are more vibrant and prosperous when everyone feels welcomed, the South Shore Y’s participation in Welcoming Week celebrates the diversity that runs deep in our cities and towns across the South Shore.

“At the South Shore YMCA, we believe we are stronger when everyone in our community comes together to promote cross-cultural understanding,” said Shavon Andrews, VP of HR & Leadership Development/CHRO, South Shore YMCA. “Welcoming Week is an annual opportunity for our neighbors to connect with one another to celebrate what makes them unique. From Quincy to Hanover and everywhere in between, we’re excited to host events that will bring people from different backgrounds and ideologies together to find common ground.”

Welcoming Week events are being held across the South Shore Y until Sunday, September 22. “These events are part of a powerful and growing movement in our country and around the world demonstrating that communities want to be welcoming,” said Rachel Peric, executive director of Welcoming America. “It is a reminder of the resilient and inclusive spirit of American communities. Thousands of local leaders in communities large and small, rural and urban, are bringing their communities together to bridge divides and build stronger local economies where everyone belongs.”
