Golf Classic 2022 Strengthens Y Adaptive Programs

Posted: Jul. 14, 2022 Support Adaptive Programs at the Y

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, 228 golfers joined us at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth for the 26th annual South Shore YMCA Golf Classic. The warmth of a beautiful, sunny day with blue skies and a gentle breeze lent the perfect setting for a day of golf in support of adaptive programming at the Y.

Thanks to the generosity of our golfers and sponsors, the 2022 Golf Classic raised over $200,000! This means more individuals with physical disabilities will have the opportunity to enjoy more of what the Y has to offer, including adaptive sports like wheelchair tennis, basketball, and golf, recreational activities, and adaptive health and wellness programs, such as our South Shore YMCA Partnership Program, a non-clinical program that pairs individuals with physical disabilities with trained Y staff to exercise on specialized equipment, swim in our pools, play sports, and more.

Out on the course with us were special guests, legendary Boston sportscasters and South Shore YMCA Members, Bob Lobel and Bob Halloran, our auctioneer for the event. Bob Lobel has graciously shared his own experience working with our South Shore YMCA Partnership Program to regain strength, confidence, and mobility with the help of trained Y staff, volunteers, and specialized equipment. Missing from the day was fellow sportscaster Mike Lynch, who served as our auctioneer in 2021. Mike recently experienced a stroke and is working with our partners at Spaulding to get back to the Y and continue his journey to “get better every day.”

When life takes an unexpected turn, the Y is there to provide a path back. Thanks to our supporters who joined us for a wonderful day to support these vital programs at our Y.
