2023 GOLF CLASSIC HELPS SEND KIDS TO CAMP AND STRENGTHENS ADAPTIVE PROGRAMMING

It was a beautiful hot and sunny day as golfers took to the course this week at the 2023 South Shore YMCA Golf Classic at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth. This year our players, donors and sponsors helped our Y raise funds to strengthen adaptive programming at the Y and help send more kids to enjoy the life-changing experience of Y camps through its Send a Kid to Camp program.

Out on the course with us were special guests, legendary Boston sportscasters and South Shore YMCA Members, Bob Lobel and Bob Halloran, our auctioneer for the event. Bob Lobel has been a strong supporter of our Y for years and has shared his personal experience working with the South Shore YMCA Partnership Program, a non-clinical adaptive sports, fitness and recreation program that helps individuals with physical disabilities to regain strength, confidence and mobility with the help of trained Y staff, volunteers, and specialized equipment.

Many of this year’s golfers are parents of Y campers, or went to a Y camp themselves as children, and understand the lifelong impact of sending a child to camp at the Y. When it comes to our Send a Kid to Camp program, one former camper said it perfectly: “There is no greater gift that you can give. There is nothing in the world that you can give that is greater than this…. You’re going to build a person who is going to make this world a better place because of the way camp will change them.”
